Last night the Cleveland Browns ended a 635 day losing streak to defeat the New York Jets 21-17.
Needless to say, it was a big day for Cleveland.
Now, I’m not a sports fan, but there’s definitely something to be said for anyone that can be on a team that goes for so long without winning, and still want to stick with it.
With that kind of tenacity, any one of the Browns could easily make it as an actor or a filmmaker in Hollywood.
Here me out–it’s not about talent. There’s plenty of talent out there, on the football field and behind of or in front of a movie camera.
To really survive and have any kind of longevity in the entertainment industry, you need to be able to make and celebrate your own small victories.
Because you can go for a long time without a win–auditioning for roles that you don’t get, making movies that don’t get distributed, or hoping and dreaming for your big chance that you feel may never come.
We face rejection every single day. It’s one of the only industries where you have to personally put your heart and soul out there for the world to see, and there’s a big chance that someone (even if that someone is yourself) is going to stomp all over that and make you feel like you’re not good enough.
But the thing is, you ARE good enough.
And all of those little steps that you take every day are the ones that are driving you towards your next big win.
And THOSE are the real victories that you should be celebrating.
Like the Browns.
For the past two years, they haven’t had a “win”, at least not on the scoreboards. But they had many small victories that helped get them through to last night’s game.
First down? That’s a victory.
Recover a fumble? That’s a victory.
Did you have the courage to go audition for a commercial? That’s a win.
Did you finally start work on that screenplay that’s been in your head for the last year? That’s another win.
All of these small wins are what really make you successful, because you celebrate the fact that you’re putting yourself out there.
And each of these small wins puts you closer to the big win that you’ve been dreaming about.
So put yourself out there today. Do the work, and don’t forget to celebrate your victories, no matter how small you may think they are.
