Assignment 1: Find the basis of a story idea. Boil the plot down to one paragraph. Then write an additional paragraph about who the audience is and what raw human emotion this story will appeal to.
Assignment 2: Define your avatar–in as much detail as possible, tell me who it is that will most love your film idea. If you have a specific person in mind, describe them. If not, make them up. But be specific–age, sex, race, etc. What things do they like to do? What are their hopes and dreams? What other movies or activities do they like? Write a detailed description.
Assignment 3: Write out the plot of your story. Tell tell it on camera as a “campfire” story. Don’t worry about quality of the audio/video (shooting on your phone or webcam is fine) so much as the act of storytelling.
Assignment 4: Submit a formatted short film script OR at least 5-6 pages of scenes from a longer script. Make sure you use everything you’ve learned so far to choose an audience and write good dialogue.
